Why buying gold is bad

I’m not going to talk about the ethics behind that, I’m not here to judge. I’m not going to say it’s bad because it is against almost all MMORPG EULA (which means you’re ought to be banned for it if discovered). I’m going to talk about why it is bad for YOU, You the player.

First, buying gold means you keep gold-sellers alive. This is a billion-dollars market, yes Billion-Dollars. Because YOU are buying gold from them, they exist. Why is that bad? it’s bad because whoever hacked your account or your friend’s account is 90% a gold seller. They use your account to sell gold. They also spam YOU, yes YOU, with messages either in whispers/tells or in public chat. If it’s alright for you to keep getting spammed and have your account chances of being hacked increased then read more I might be able to convince you.

Secondly, gold sellers mess up the game’s economy. Big part of these people get their gold by hacking. So, you’re paying a thief for virtual money. But let’s ignore that here. Let’s assume that gold sellers get their gold legitimately, alright? They still mess up the game’s economy. How? I will give you an example below.

Say there are 5 people in the server; Player A, Player B, Player C, Player D and Greedy Bastard Player.

The world without Gold Sellers and assuming all these players are normal people with normal playing hours. Everyone of them has 500 Gold (game currency) and Greedy Bastard Player loots an item that EVERYONE wants. He offers it in the Auction house for 1,000 gold. What’s going to happen? no one will buy it. Simply because no one has the money for it. So, he’s forced to lower the price.

The world WITH Gold Sellers and let’s assume Player A and B bought 10,000 gold. Greedy Bastard Player loots that item that EVERYONE wants he offers it for 1,000 gold and Player A snatches it FAST. The Greedy Bastard Player offers another item for 5,000 gold; both player A and B can buy it. Since they have the money. This is called inflation, yes I know. But you must understand that this Greedy Bastard Player is a Gold Seller!!! He sells you gold to get it back from you because of his artificial inflation. In other words, you’re an idiot. But WAIT what about the honest players, Player C and D? they’re still stuck with 500 gold with all the items being too expensive (for stupid gold buyers to buy). Player C and D game experience is RUINED because they cannot compete with the gold sellers.

Don’t worry about Player D, do you know why? because he’s smart. He exploits the inflation situation and sells items for a high price because he knows there are stupid gold buyers out there who will buy from him for a ridiculous high price and he will end up with roughly the same money as they have instead he didn’t participate in ruining the game’s economy, he didn’t help thieves/hackers, he didn’t support an illegal business and definitely he didn’t pay a penny other than the game’s subscription fees. So, the conclusion is Player D and Greedy Bastard Player win, Player C loses, Player A and B are douche bags. End of story.
