There are very few games – in my 25 years of gaming experience – hooked me so much that I can’t go to sleep and if I do I can’t wait to wake up and jump in again to continue my adventures. Games like Eye of the Beholder, Baldur’s Gate, EverQuest, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines and now Skyrim. Sometimes when I am in Skyrim I can’t hold my emotions so I end up weeping while chanting the Nordic Theme of The Elder Scrolls “La lalalal ala lallala LALALA LA!!” wearing no pants with a gigantic boner erected and I also usually end up laughing hysterically and collapse.

In 1993 while playing Aber Bud using my Procomm Plus DOS program which connects me to a Unix Internet Server which also connects to this beautiful MUD game, I had a big dream. But, being in that world of text and nothing but text. Looking at the black screen reading the white text of Aber MUD world. I was thinking how great it would be if this was turned into something graphical. Five years later and my dream came true. EverQuest while based on Diku MUD was still what I was asking for.

I’ve been ignoring MineCraft for awhile. I think mainly because of my first impression playing the alpha web-based version last year. I didn’t give the game justice and I thought it was just some kind of a pointless lego game in a bright colorful world. I’m not sure maybe they didn’t add the night/day cycle back then? I gave it another go this time and to my surprise this game when played in the survival mode provides a unique game experience.
