There’s something that bugs me about recent MMORPGs and it seems like a breaking point that someday could drive me away from MMORPGs entirely. When I began to play MMOs, so many years ago, I came from a mixture of MUD, Paper and Pencil and Classic RPG background. I quickly realized that MMORPGs are what Role Playing was all about. Since the moment Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson co-created the first Role Playing game I believe they wanted to create a true living world where players can live the great adventures from famous books like Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit.

Just one day before Rift’s Closed Beta Event, Trion released a Beta Trailer which have sealed the deal for me. This video pushes Rift’s Hype Meter to the extreme level. Be warned before you watch it specially if you are not invited to the Beta Event! The good news is this game looks like it’s going to deliver. For World of Warcraft fans this is the game you want to play. Even for World of Warcraft haters, this game is still the game to play. For PvPers and Aion PvP players, your prayers are answered. For those who love the Talent System from WoW, don’t wet your pants.

Corporations are making our games easier and easier. The syndrome of easy reward and risk free design is creeping all over the place. This is really getting out of hand. What do you think?

CCP Games, the creators of EVE Online, confirmed their new MMORPG World of Darkness based on the famous Paper ‘n’ Pencil Role Playing Game by White Wolf. I honestly wet my pants the moment I heard the news. Because I think we need a change to the fantasy and sci-fi themed MMORPGs that have been flooding the market in the past ten years. I am a big fan of the setting and specially Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, that game was fun and the lore is intriguing.
